Throughout his life my father
established a tradition of giving back to a world he felt
had so richly blessed him. I'm so proud to follow in
his footsteps and continue this tradition. Here are
some worthwhile organizations you should know about.
THE
ROOSTERS FOUNDATION
The Roosters is a non-profit California based charitable
organization committed to aiding disadvantaged and at risk
children by supporting public and private programs.
The foundation provides fundraising services to local
charities who do not have a national financial base and are
thus challenged to meet the ever demanding needs of the
communities they serve. One of the highlights of the
Roosters fundraising year is the annual Monte Carlo
Night, a black tie dinner, show, auction and awards
ceremony that helps fund year long Roosters
activities. In previous years, the Roosters have
awarded their lifetime and golden achievement awards for
humanitarian efforts aiding children to Dean Martin, Deana
Martin, Judy Garland and Lorna Luft. Ms. Luft
has also brought her acclaimed theatrical show, Songs
My Mother Taught Me: A Celebration of the Music of Judy
Garland, to this event. Deana Martin and her husband, John
Griffeth, are honorary Roosters actively involved in this
organizations good works. The 2002 Monte Carlo Night
featured a very special multi-media performance; Deana sang
along to video footage of her Time After Time duet
with Jerry Lewis from his MDA Telethon. For more

THE DEAN MARTIN
SCHOLARSHIP IN MUSIC
The
National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is
the major advocate in Washington, DC for nearly 25 million
Italian Americans, the nation's fifth largest ethnic group. The NIAF was founded in 1975 as a non-profit organization in
Washington, DC. It is entirely non-partisan.
Every year, the NIAF honors outstanding Italians and Italian
Americans at its Anniversary Gala Dinner. This event draws
nearly 3,000 people from the U.S. and abroad to Washington
D.C. It has been attended by every sitting American
president since 1975. On October 26, 2002, at the NIAF
annual gala, via video, actor Jerry Lewis announced
the newly established Dean Martin Scholarship in Music
by the Foundation. Deana was introduced by NIAF President Joseph
Cerrell at the NIAF podium for the announcement and
subsequently delivered a stirring speech regarding her
father's legacy.
Its mission is to preserve and protect Italian American
heritage and culture. Through
its many programs, the NIAF:
- Helps
young Italian Americans with their educations and
careers
- Works
closely with Congress and the White House to promote the
appointment of Italian Americans in government
- Encourages
the teaching of Italian language and culture in U.S.
schools
- Monitors
the portrayal of Italian Americans by the news and

- Strengthens
cultural and economic ties between Italy and the U.S.
